“Most subjects who reported recreational use reported experiencing symptoms (87%). The most common symptoms were palpitations, agitation, tremor, and gastrointestinal upset. Twenty-one subjects had signs of serious cardiac or neurological toxicity, including hallucinations, seizures, arrhythmias, or cardiac ischemia. At least 128 subjects (57 with no co-ingestants) required hospitalization.”
Excerpt from a study conducted by the Medical Journal of Australia
Taurine
Bull Testicles? A friend of mine once fed me the widespread notion that Taurine, found in Redbull, Monster, NOS, Full Throttle, and energy drinks everywhere, is extracted from bull semen. As insane as this sounds, gelatin (Those favorite Fruit Snacks of [I’d love to say kids but I digress] everyone!) is made from cows’ bones , so, why not? On top of that, it’s amino acid! Which immediately rings bells of reassurance right? The body needs amino acids, however! Taurine isn’t an essential Amino (not bull semen, to clarify). It’s what is known as a conditionally essential amino acid. While our bodies produce it naturally, it produces roughly 123-178 milligrams daily, which is an ample supply for combatting illnesses and challenges to the body. According to the Cleveland Clinic Journal of Medicine consumption of just one standard size (eight ounces) energy drink increases the levels of taurine by 6-16 times.
The important thing to note when researching ingredients unfortunately is reading between the lines. These are companies like Coca-Cola, Pepsi, Redbull GmbH, etc. They have an influence on how information is put out. So when you research taurine, for example, you’ll find somewhat positive information! Yes, taurine is good for you as your body produces and obtains it from a routine diet. However, Excessive taurine amounts combined with excessive caffeine have a severe impact on heart rate, elevated blood pressure, and even the development of the adolescent according to the Society for Birth Defects Research and Prevention. All of which are combinatory effects of caffeine. These recipes are brewed with intent. It’s your body, know what you’re doing to it.
Norway, France, Uruguay, and Denmark have banned Red Bull because of its negative health effects
